Léogane, a town renowned for its Rara music and Mardi Gras culture, was among the most ravaged during the 2010 earthquake. It also where ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax made many of the field recordings and videos that encompass the Alan Lomax in Haiti: Recordings from the Library of Congress 1936-1937 box set, which was nominated for two 2010 Grammy Awards. On the first day of Sinema Anba Zetwal's (SAZ) stop in Leogane, the local Lakou Model band marched through town, inspiring dancers and inviting locals down to the SAZ location. The band was welcomed by thousands of onlookers when they entered the field where SAZ was being held. On stage or in the crowd, everyone gets a chance to express themselves at SAZ. In this video, a young boy shows off his dancing skills.
